Well, hey hey! I am alive and doing well! I know for a fact that I don´t have enough time to write all that I want to write! It would take days! But man, life is.. different here in Mexico! Everything is different the language, people, money, food, houses, cars, weather, anything you could possible think of!
I will start with my trainers! I am in a trio and I love it! I also live with Hermana Bowers [one of the Hermanas from the MTC- such a blessing] p.s. I am on a Spanish keyboard and can´t figure things out so sorry if this letter is weird. Anyways yes! We live in a house us 5 and the house is actually really nice! We also live about a 40 minute walk outside of our area. Which if you were here you would know that that is also a huge blessing haha. So, I found out our first night they they keep all the sisters in this mission only in Reynosa and Matamoros because the other cuties are too dangerous. They are very smart here about safety. Somethings are unavoidable but that is why we are missionaries and have protection. I feel very safe- don´t worry!
My companions are Hma. Sosa and Hma. Tobon. Hma. Sosa is from Quertaro [where mt friend christian will be serving in like a month!-Christian she said she has referencias for you :] she´s awesome] Hma. Tobon is from Tux. Guetierez or however it is spelled. They are both 19 too. They know a few words in English but not a bunch. They are the sister training leaders and are freaking hard workers! I love it! Plus they are funny :] we getting along super well and they have a ton of patience but they push me to talk a bunch in lessons which can be difficult for me but it is a HUGE blessing in disguise.
K, let me describe Reynosa. Right now I am serving is the dead center of Reynosa it is called Canada, Reynosa which is super funny to me. All of the old school buses say Cañada on them and I just laugh cause this place is NOTHING like Canada! Canada would be ashamed haha. It is SO dirty and there are 10839740897403780275858 stray dogs and cats EVERYWHERE!! Seriously EVERYWHERE! They are all either pregnant or just had babies! MOM-go get Sadie fixed! I have seen how bad it can get! It is so funny though because all of the houses are really short so when a dog or a cat is following you or really gross you just pick it up and stick it on a roof. There are a lot of dogs and cats on roofs everywhere.
All of the houses are super.. poor.. i don't know a better word. I have taught in tin house, forts, some houses that I have no idea what they are made of they are just black. Also I haven´t seen another blonde person since I have been here no a person who wasn't a missionary that has a full set of teeth but it is all good because the people are amazing! I am in love with the members! Ones name is Nacho and him and his wife own a piñata shop and they are just always laughing! I have no idea about what haha but they are just so happy! The people here have already changed my life cause we will go into a ´house´ that is really just like tin scrapes and kids are running everywhere and we will be like do you need help? and they will be like no, life is good! it´s all good and like they are being sincere and then they make us tacos and give us juice. Like it is amazing! The people are amazing!
Hmm.. I am trying to think of more interesting facts.. I try to wait to use the bathroom until I get home cause no one uses toilet paper. Oh EVERYONE eats habenero peppers! My first night I ate one and i wanted to die! I am getting more used to them now. The chips and salsa is amazing! it is all homemade! and so delicious! All of the food is super good! Yesterday we had they best tacos EVER [Em-they were WAY better than Hectors!] not going to lie.. I ate 22 of them.. haha I am not even sad about it! They were so good! I am going to get fat here.. they just feed us and feed us and feed us.
Oh and I forgot to mention Presidente Morales doesn't speak any English! I was telling him about my parents and he asked where dad served I told him Texas south mission and was trying to explain that when dad went on his mission there were only two missions and now there are a bunch. Sorry dad but I said that was along time ago my dad is old. But I didn't know the word for old so I said antigua which is ancient hahaha president laughed so hard he gives me ahard time about that now every time I see him cause his is about dad´s age. He is like well Hermana Gillette thinks I am ancient. It is funny. I love him. He is perfectly balanced with spiritual stuff and funny. I don't know I am all over the place.
Oh another funny story is that one day during a lessons I taught about prophets and Joseph Smith to a lady and then after she starts to respond to what I had just said but I couldn't understand her after.. she is just rambling and I am like I am not getting any of this. She then asks me a question and I have NO IDEA what she asked so I just stare haha she then looks at me and say ´Banana¨ I am like What??? hahaha she then continued talked I don't think she knows what banana means. it was so funny to me.
Also, Everyone here always sticks out their tongues and goes ehhh.... and that is their laugh it is so weird but I have already started to do it because they do it all the time! Also the people are very loud but like mumble their words. I can´t tell sometimes if the people we teach are super excited about something or super angry haha. It is a good time trying to figure that out. Also, they are all super tone def here. That is also a good time. Church was super fun yesterday we had 8 of our investigators at church which I felt was good! But I have no idea. haha we have a million investigators which is nice! and a lot of baptisms [hopefully] coming up. But it is all super different but I am enjoying it. I really am. I know some people may question this but I am! Of course somethings are hard but mostly it is just an adventure, a super cool, unique one.
Well, That is all I can think of at the moment! I love you all and hope everyone had awesome weeks!! You all rock and I feel so loved and supported! I have the most awesome family ever and I never forget it :]
