Okay now that that is over with let me tell you how things are going here in Reynosa. The weather is so weird. We go through all 4 seasons every week. one day it is SUPER HOT the next it is SUPER COLD the next it is rainy and the next day it is perfect. On the perfect days, I like to close my eyes as I walk cause it feels just like I am on the beach. It is sweet. Except some days I come home and the wind mixed with the dirt has made me look SO dirty hahaha it is disgusting.
But this week was interesting as far as missionary work. It is hard sometimes. Not like I imagined it would be. Like yeah I can't understand the people but I can definitely tell that they all have harsh problems here. You all think we have problems at home.. man oh man.. I don't know in a sum we are teaching a family where the 13 year old is pregnant, we are teaching a 16 year old who's parents have abandoned here.. those are really the only ones I understand. It is sad. I am working hard to learn the language and more importantly how the gospel can help them so that their lives can be happier.
But I want to tell you about this man we met yesterday. We were walking past this place that looked like a foresty junk yard haha I don't know how to describe it but there were so many ducks walking around and there was this man and he called out to us. SO we went over to him and he uttered a few words. I think he was asking who we were. Anyways he looked just like Doc from Back to the future well if Doc had no teeth and well I could just tell he had some awesome things to say based on the way he was so excited as he talked and jumped around and showed us each of his ducks haha it was awesome. We taught him a little but I think the elders will have to take over sadly. Anyway I just loved that experience.
Oh so the food.. it is so good. Last P-day was Hma. Lopez (Hma. Bower's comp.) Birthday so we had 3 different tres leche cakes and they were all so delicious! We had one that had coconut and mango in it. It was heaven. But when you aren't eating tres leche, you are eating tacos. Seriously EVERYTHING is a "taco" haha which just means that you eat it with a tortilla and a gigantic spoon. The only silverware people ever have are gigantic spoons and tortillas. There are no other options. But yeah we had spaghetti this week. It was the best spaghetti of my life. It was noodles and ground beef and then they had on the side this hot chile salsa and so you grab you tortilla and gigantic spoon and scoop the meat noodles and salsa in it. It looked not so good but man, I want more right now.
Another funny story from the week was we went to a house we had gotten a referral for. We asked for carlos and the man goes which Carlos? There are 5 Carlos that live here. Then he starts to list them off: Carlos franscico, Carlos, Juan, Carlos Miguel, Carlos Senor.. that was a good time too haha
Oh did I ever mention also that there is a kid from my ward not just in my mission but in my district! It is crazy! Mom or Dano do you remember Conner Barlow. Yeah he is in my district that was pretty crazy! It is weird to see someone from Brighton every week. But also kinda cool.
So, I am going to send a picture of me with this like famous drink here. They call it Chamo. I think it taste disgusting but it will probably be one of those things I ended up loving. Who knows. But it is like a snowcone with this super thick almost like Jell-O syrup that is like chile and sugar flavored and salt flavored. Did I tell you all about how my comps will just eat packets of sugar, salt and chile powder mixtures.. blehh.. yeah that flavor. Then they stick this straw dipped in chile powder in it. then they put fruit and gummy candies on it. Yeah.. it was interesting.
Okay so the last thing I want to mention is that even with being super busy here in crazy Mexico and with this crazy mission life. Some things you just never forget or I guess you could say some people and that would be Tyler Robinson. I can't believe it has been a year since his passing tomorrow. The good thing is that I know he is much happier than we all are right now and he deserves to be! What an amazing person. I was talking with Hma. Bowers last night of something I could do to honor him out here and couldn't think. The only thing I thought of to do was put his name on the back of my name tags so that I could remember his outstanding example everyday and strive to be a little more like him. Cause I know he's helping me out here.
Well, I can't think of what else to say.. my mind is too scattered when I email sadly. Sorry.. I am just sitting here in this internet cafe and well I can hear what you can always hear around here and that is the family on this wagon being pulled by a donkey and they always just shout what sounds like "hey!", I can also hear Mexican music, birds, the water trucks.. they are so loud they just sell what but they have mega phones that have advertisements repeating. I almost know them by heart haha. yeah I think that is it. I love you all! You're the best! Miss you!
