So weird to me that a year has passed. I honestly dont know where it went! It is just really freaking me out that I am 2/3 of the way down with the mission. But I must saying I am doing a good job at enjoying every single second out here so when I get home I will still be sad but nothing like I would be if I didn't take advantage of every second.
Well this week was another miracle. Seriously such a good week. We got to work a lot and play a lot. It was freezing here! about 38 degrees and without a heater in the house... yeah I really miss carpet. But even with the wind and the rain in our faces we were still able to have a great time this week. I will start with Tuesday. We found Bowser.. my lizard as you can see in one of the photos I sent! He is super fast and weird and scary but we caught him outside of a house of a member. I think they kept him hahahah I am not exactly sure though. More on that later.
The progress of our investigators is coming along. We have a lot of people who are preparing for baptism right now so our week was basically focusing on them and finding people between our appointments. I will send a picture because we had a member bring his van for us to pick up our investigators yesterday and we were a full car. In the picture you will see Norma. One of my favorite people I have met out here. She is now in 2 Nephi in the Book of Mormon. Honestly, for those people that say that we can-t find people read for baptism knocking doors.. just please come visit Norma. Everyone in the neighborhood calls her mama, even the adults. Hahaha It fits her perfectly. Also in the car is Vicenta, remember her? love her too! Basically it is a photo of me and my mom's that I have here.. I have a lot!
What else? Holy cow!! Seriously. I ate SO much on New Year's Eve! Let me tell you all... So we ate at a recent converts house... Hermana Alberta. Her husband still ins't a member and the first time i went to their house we went right after lunch to visit and they had prepared us a bunch of tacos. I was full from lunch so I hardly ate anything. Her husband got offended and has hardly talked to me since. When Alberta invited us to dinner her spouse told me I had to come prepared to eat. So of course I did hahah and well you all know me. I can eat. Let me make a list for you all... her husband made us.. the fish (as shown in the pictures) which was actually super delicious! my favorite thing I ate, shrimp soup, shrimp cocktail, salad, stuffed jalapenos, grilled chicken, carne asada, bratwurst, ribs, and then to top it all off the GIGANTIC cake! I thought I was going to die! It was all so freaking delicious! But I honestly don't know how it all fit inside of me. It was definitely hard to get up the next morning to exercise haha.
We also have neighbors who are less active members that moved her from Spain. They called us one morning to tell us they were going out of town and they wanted us to watch their dogs for 2 days since they don't know anyone here they can trust with their house keys. So we got put on dog watch. It was rather interesting is all I am going to say on that haha. They were two Chihuahuas Minnie and Daisy. I was thinking about Story whenever we went to feed them I will send pictures from that experience as well.
we found another sweet investigator this week named Elvia. We went and visited her with two members of the relief society. Elvia is this sweet lady who is friends with a brother in our ward. We taught her about the gospel and at first she was like "i will listen but I am catholic" but then as we explained the priesthood she opened up a ton and asked a bunch of questions and well at the end of the lesson she also accepted a baptismal date for the end of this month. It was awesome.
Wow, I had so much to say but I can hardly remember anything. It is a good thing I keep a journal because there is so much that happens in the mission I can't keep up with it all. On Thursday we had lunch at our stake president's house. He lives in our ward. we usually eat with just his wife but since it was new year's he was home too. He made us Pozole so I instantly new he was someone I could trust haha. I was so happy. Love Pozole. Anyway, lunch was awesome with him. At the end of lunch he thanked Hermana Godoy and I for the visit and he told me that President has talked very highly of me. He told me a few of the things he has heard about me and my mission and honestly It made my day, my week, my month. Who knows if what he said was true. But it was nice to know that President thinks highly of me. Makes me want to work all that much more!
Today, we pulled all the weed in front of our house. I totally felt like I was mom. My companion was like we need to cut the weeds and I just went outside right then and there and started pulling all the weeds haha she was like "no, let's us scissors" she then brought out her tiny kid scissors and started to cut. Thank you mom for teaching me how to do yard work. Paid off in the long run.
I am sure I will think of more things I forgot to add. I will write president and get back to you all.
Love you and Happy New Year!
Hermana Gillette
OH! I remember something I forgot to write about! In Honduras on New Year's the people crack open and egg and there is a myth that you can see your future in the egg. Well, since my companion is from Honduras we couldn't break tradition. But now I am scared that I am gonna die because my egg had a big dark spot and the white was in the from of an angel.... dun... dun.. dun... then my companion chimed in "it's because you are going to go home this year.. you're spiritually dying..."
Yup. the mission time clock jokes have now started. sucks.
:(
