Hello!
How is everyone? I am hoping you are all having fun and staying cool! I don't know why but I am not getting used to this heat.. it is impossible! I think it is the fact that we don't have air conditioning. I never realized how big of a blessing air conditioning is and well if anyone needs it. It is the people here! haha
This week has been well.. a party with Hermana Lopez. We have just clicked really well and since we lived together for 3 months in my last area we already know each other really well and everything. It is nice because we work well together. She is a really hard worker and is now the new sister leader. It has only been a week together and we have already had all kinds of stories. I guess that is just the mission life!
The first day together we were able to find a bunch of our investigators in their houses so that was a great way to start the transfer! Hermana Brenda should be getting baptized her soon too! Brenda is awesome. She has had a crazy and hard life. Brenda is a single mom and has her daughter Angela who is 6. Angela has some sort of sickness, I don't exactly know what it is but they are always in and out of the hospital. It is sad but I am excited that Brenda now has the church and the ward in her life. I have seen a lot of changes in her. I really like looking back and thinking about our investigators when we very, very first met then and seeing were they are now. Sometimes the changes are seriously so amazing to me! Brenda has always been strong but now I am seeing her enjoy her life more. It is sweet!
hmm.. I have now gotten to the point on my mission where I am recognizing people's religions by the way they talk. All of the Catholics are very short with us and they say "Soy Catholico" every single one of them in the exact same tone of voice with the exact same facial expression. Oh man, I wish I could show you all. But this week we found this woman outside her house and she said the exact same thing "Soy Catholico" but then she went on to say "Nooo muccccchhhhoo pero soy catholico" Oh man, this story will have to be retold someday because an email can't do it justice. All week Hermana Lopez and I have been saying this just because the way she said it was seriously so funny.
okay enough of that. what else? Conner Barlow, The kid I went to school with that used to be in my ward is now my district leader again. It is a small world. Oh and I have been planning soccer more with all the missionaries in my zone and some investigators every p-day. I am slowing getting better. the last week I even made two goals. I was pretty stoked because I am not athletic but it is fun!
Oh do you all remember Hermana Blanca my convert in Loma Linda? Her dad lives in my area right now and we have been teaching him with Hermana Blanca. I am hoping he will be able to be baptized but he has a really big problem with drinking. But he is trying so we have faith. We have also been teaching Remi, Julia's mom. The woman is a saint. She also making delicious carne asada tacos for us which is only a plus! Remi has been going to church every Sunday since February and been living every law since then, even tithing and fasting! She has been nervous to accept a baptismal date but yesterday we had a beautiful lesson with her adn she is now going to be baptized in 2 weeks! It is going to be beautiful!
We also have a sweet 15 year old we are teaching right now but her mom won't give her permission top be baptized. So we will just have to see what happens there. The work is good. There is a lot to be done in this area. But Hermana Lopez and I are ready to help the people here. We worked with our bishop all of yesterday finding where the inactive members live. There are about 230 families in our ward and only about 40 or 50 come to church. So we are trying to find where they all live so that we can help them come back!
I think that this is about all from my week. Hermana Lopez and I in our few seconds of "free time" during the night eat mango ice cream. They have the most delicious homemade mango ice cream and lime ice cream and coconut ice cream here and it is super cheap! Like 80 cents for a giant cup! This will be something I miss! Oh and I am seriously Mexican. On the way to this cyber cafe we stopped and ate some pig skin and cactus tacos. They were so good! haha I will have to make all the good food for you all one day!
Okay well I love you all and hope you all have a great week!
Love,
Hermana Gillette
